UNEXPECTED PROPOSALS

POV: KRISH

The morning light sliced through my curtains, waking me from another restless night. I could still see some pieces of the dream lingering in my mind—the haunting image of my mother’s last moments. Shaking it off, I forced myself to focus on the day ahead. I had a meeting with my father today, and although I was usually indifferent to family matters, something about his tone last night stirred an unsettling feeling in my gut. I just didn't feel like it could be ignored but it was something related to me.

After my usual gym session, I dressed in a grey suit and prepared for the day. I was still lost in thought when I arrived at my office. As I went through the motions of the day—meetings, calls, and the monotony of corporate life—I couldn’t shake the feeling that something significant was about to change.

POV: ANVI

I woke up with determination today, I'm not gonna be late but it was the impending family meeting that truly had my heart racing. My father’s demeanor had shifted, and I could sense the tension in our household. Aarohi and I had brainstormed over video calls about possible topics for my essays, but the upcoming conversation with my dad overshadowed everything. What could be so serious that it required a family meeting?

I quickly dressed and prepared myself for class, determined to make it on time. But my mind drifted back to my parents. Were they facing financial troubles? I had heard them whispering late at night, their voices tinged with concern. I couldn’t let them down; I needed to prove that I was responsible enough to handle whatever news was coming.

POV: KRISH

I had to go early today. The clock struck five; it was time to head home. My thoughts were jumbled, and I felt an unusual sense of anxiety. When I arrived, the air was thick with unspoken words. My father sat at the dining table, looking more serious than usual, and my siblings who usually bickered, were unusually quiet.

“Krish,” he began, “I have some important news.” I felt my heart race as I braced myself for whatever was to come.

Before my father could continue, the doorbell rang. My younger siblings exchanged glances, and I caught a glimpse of Ved standing outside, his expression curious and slightly apprehensive.

“Come in, Ved,” I called out, hoping his presence would lighten the mood.

“Is everything okay?” Ved asked, sensing the tension.

“Let’s just say our family is about to change,” my father replied , and I felt the knot in my stomach tighten.

POV: ANVI

Dinner that evening was unusually quiet. My mom had prepared my favorite dishes, but I barely touched my food. The air was thick with anticipation, and my parents exchanged glances that spoke volumes.

“Anvi,” my dad finally said, breaking the silence. “We need to discuss something important.” My heart raced.

Aarohi had texted me earlier about her own family meeting, but I hadn’t replied. It felt trivial compared to the gravity of my own situation.

“Is it about school?” I asked, my voice trembling slightly.

“Nahi baccha." (No, sweetheart) my mom said gently. “It’s about your future.”

Before I could process what she meant, my dad continued, “Hamein ek rishta aaya hai tumhare liye, beta" (We’ve been approached with a proposal for you)

“Rishta?" (Proposal?) I echoed, confused. “What do you mean papa?”

“It’s an arranged marriage. With the Oberoi family.” My heart dropped. The name echoed in my mind—Krish Oberoi. The cold-hearted CEO I’d only heard about in whispers.

POV: KRISH

As my father finally revealed the news, my mind spiraled into chaos. An arranged marriage? With the Kashyaps? I had heard whispers about their daughter, Anvi, but I had never imagined I would be tied to her in such a way.

“Kya? What do you mean? You’re not serious, are you?” I shot back defensively.

“Yeh ham dono families ke liye better opportunities ke baare mein hai, beta,”(this is for the benefit of better opportunities for both the families, son) my father insisted. “It’s not just about love; it’s about business and stability.”

Ved, who had been listening quietly, chimed in, “Krish, it might not be such a bad idea. You know, getting to know each other could lead to something good.”

I shot him a glare, but his expression was earnest.

“Think about it. Tum hamesha kaam mein busy hote ho, kya pata this might be what you need, bro." (You’ve been so focused on work, maybe this is what you need, bro)

Mujhe aisa lga as if mein nhi, dusre log meri life jee rhe hon. (I felt trapped, as if my life was being mapped out by others.) But somewhere beneath the frustration, a flicker of curiosity ignited. Who was Anvi Kashyap?

POV: ANVI

The next few days were a whirlwind of emotions. It was hell of a rollercoater. I couldn’t shake the shock of my parents’ announcement. An arranged marriage? At the age of 23? With someone like Krish? It felt surreal.

Both the families wanted us to get to know each other better, so they decided, for the good, to make us go on a coffee date.

I confided in Aarohi, who was equally shocked. “Bhai, tu usse mil ke toh dekh, kya pta woh waisa na ho jaisa log kehte hein." (You have to meet him first! What if he’s not as terrible as everyone says?)

The thought of meeting Krish sent a mix of dread and curiosity through me. What if he was exactly what I needed? or What if he was not the right person?

As the days passed, I found myself shifting between fear and excitement. I had heard about Krish's cold demeanor, but I couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to him than the rumors suggested.

“Are you ready for this?” Aarohi asked me one afternoon, a knowing smile on her face. “I guess I have no choice,” I replied, a hint of a smile breaking through.

As I prepared for the upcoming meeting with Krish, I realized I was ready and maybe a little excited to step into this new chapter of my life, no matter where it might lead.

I took a deep breath and braced myself for the unexpected twists ahead.

In my heart, I felt the stirrings of something new—an adventure that was just beginning. I wanted to see how it goes, where life takes me and the turns and challenges ahead.

guys, the next chapter is going to be about their coffee date, how it went and how the different reactions- Krish not wanting to fall in love and Anvi unknowingly, slowly falling for him- Krish showing up in a baseball hat, a simple t-shirt that nonchalantly showed his muscular body and sweatpants while Anvi wore a frock and heels and she's clumsy af so they have a cute moment together (hehe) this is the last free chapter, now it's going to be follower's only
